How to evaluate the quality of pearlsPearls are artificially cultured in Vietnam. This means that they are created by nature itself, but with a little human intervention. A tiny mother-of-pearl ball is put into the shell, and the oyster turns it into a pearl. Pearls are cultured at special farms under the supervision of specialists. Cultured pearl are several times cheaper than “wild” ones, found by pearl catchers in the seabed. However, they are not a fake or artificial, but a real creation of nature. Most part of the jewelry at the market are produced with cultured pearls.

Please note that many stores offer to create jewelry according to your own design. For example, you can ask to make a bracelet of three strands or necklace with pearls, gradually passing from large to small and back. It is often possible to change the clasp or increase the length of the beads in accordance with your wishes.

How to evaluate the quality of pearls

Pearls are sold everywhere, from large luxury shops to small street stalls. The price for pearls vary a lot, of course. How to evaluate the quality of pearls and buy decent jewelry at a reasonable price?!

First of all, evaluate the pearls visually. The larger and smoother the beads, the more accurately they match each other, the more expensive the pearls. Perfectly smooth surface of the pearl is also an important criterion. To better see the pearls, look at the piece in sunlight. Evaluate the brilliance of pearls: it should be natural, mother-of-pearly and uniform. The piece should not be too light.

The pearls can have different shape, they are not only round, but also oval. It is all up to your taste, but the pearls most close to the perfect sphere are the most valuable.

A simple way to check whether the pearls you see are fake is to draw a line with the pearl on any mirror or glass. It should leave a chalk-like trace with no damage to the pearl.

Remember to check if the clasps are secure, and you will be much less likely to lose your new piece of jewelry.

Of course, you’re more likely to find some quality jewelry in a shopping center than at the street trays. Here you can ask the seller about the documents they have for the products they offer. Anyway, you can also find some decent pieces of jewelry at affordable prices there. After all, there are many pearl farms in Vietnam, producing jewelry in large quantities. According to the latest data, the country annually receives up to 500 tons of sea pearls. A part of the products is exported, but a lot of pearls remains at the domestic market, so the choice is quite large and you can find something to your taste, for sure.
